ORPHANS OF THE STORM are:
William Desmond on acoustic and electric hammered dulcimers, psaltery, mellotron, assorted percussion, analog and electronic loops, background vocal textures and chants.
Taylor Barefoot on guitars, lap steel, bass, electronic loops, treatments, assorted percussion and drums.
ORPHANS OF THE STORM has attracted and assembled a unique and eclectic cast of noted artists to accompany them on this journey. Our illustrious guests include Grammy winner William Ackerman (Windham Hill records) on acoustic guitar; Greg Hawkes (The Cars) on keyboards and ukelele; Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) on bass; Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Capt. Beefheart) on guitar; Grammy nominee Jon Butcher on guitar; troubadour Michael Oakland on nylon string guitar and rising star Casey Desmond on vocal textures.
ORPHANS OF THE STORM write and record haunting, ambient music for film, live performance, installations, introspection and space travel. Using ancient, organic instrumentation mixed with modern electronics and recording methods, they create lush backdrops of thought provoking, melodic yet melancholy sonic textures.
The result is a collection of dark, haunting, emotionally charged instrumental soundscapes that create a soothing yet eerie listening experience. They are ideally suited for use as soundtracks for films and documentaries. As the songs unfold, they can take you anywhere from the stark quiet of a single instrument to a full wall of sound.
ORPHANS OF THE STORM's first two albums, THE BEING and VISIONS OF THE DIVINE MUSHROOM, will be released back to back in September 2010. The albums were recorded at:
- Barefoot Studios in Brighton, MA. Engineered by Taylor Barefoot. Co-produced by William Desmond and Taylor Barefoot.
- Will Ackerman's studio, Imaginary Road, in Vermont. Engineered by Taylor Barefoot. Co-produced by William Desmond and Taylor Barefoot.
